The 2008 Sydney Flash Mob Freeze
The world’s 2nd largest social experiment of its type, and an example of a successful viral campaign I created using the power of social media.
I organised the ‘Sydney Flash Mob Freeze’ social networking experiment in 2008 which attracted over 2,200 people from around the state to participate in a “freeze” in Sydney’s CBD. The event involved a large number of people freezing mid pose for 3 minutes amongst the busy CBD crowds and then all re-animating as part of a social prank. Using social networking media I was able to reach well in excess of 60,000 people within the space of 1 month to spread the word about the event.
Due to its popularity, it was broadcast on all major television networks and is still the world’s 2nd largest social experiment of its type. It has received worldwide recognition thanks to the popularity of its official YouTube video. Since organising the event I have been approached by many organisations (such as the United Nations Association of Australia, and Warner Home Video Entertainment) to help them with various viral campaigns both as an organiser and as a social networking and viral campaign consultant.
